News from the County Cross Country Championship

Seven pupils from Highnam Academy represented the Forest of Dean district team in the Gloucestershire County Cross Country event at St. Edward's School in Cheltenham. The course was a proper cross country course - it was about 2 miles long and included a few hills and lots of squelchy mud! Woody and Louis were in the Year 5 boys race and in tricky conditions underfoot and a long course both performed well. Woody finished in 7th place and Louis in 20th. Next up were Ilsa, Lucia and Martha from Year 5. The girls all performed well, with Martha finishing in 7th place and in doing so qualified for the county team. Finally, Nathan and Sam took part in the Year 6 boys race and both finished in the top 25 with Nathan, once again, finishing in 7th place. Seven was the number of the day... 7 pupils representing Highnam and three 7th place finishes. Which meant Nathan, Martha and Woody are now to represent Gloucestershire in the National Cross Country race in Leicestershire. A big thank you to the parents who supported the pupils on their runs and to Miss Owen and Miss Coldrick for supporting the runners on the day.
