This term, Year 5 have been working with Niki from Gloucester Rugby on a well-being and team building programme of study. The pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the rugby inspired learning opportunity. They have had the opportunity to think about how to work in a team effectively; through communicating with people face to face and by having positive body language. The children then worked as small teams to produce their own version of the Haka, which enabled the children to put their learning into practice. During another session they were considering how important it is to have a growth mindset when learning a new skill. They discussed what having a growth mindset was and then learnt the numbers 1 to 10 in Mandarin to try out this new learning. The children could all successfully count to 10 in Mandarin by keeping focused and having positive thinking even though they found it difficult. Since this session the children have sustained a growth mindset towards learning, which may be initially challenging, in all subjects.
