Highnam pupils take part in art challenge to meet British and Irish Lions

Pupils were set the challenge to design a special T-shirt to be worn by supporters of the British and Irish Lions whilst on their upcoming tour of New Zealand. Over 75 designs were submitted and the Lions Management Team selected one winner from each class. Every design was added to a large shirt collage which is currently on display in the school hall. The winning pupils were invited down to the Lions training camp near Cardiff to watch a training session and meet some of the players. Jack, in Year 5, said: “This was the best morning ever. “We watched fitness drills, lineouts, scrummaging practice and Greg Laidlaw kicking, I even had my Lions shirt signed.” The winning pupils handed over a card of support to the team during a behind the scenes tour of the Lions training camp. Freddie, in Year 2, said: “I will never forget this day – I got to meet the Lions captain Sam Warburton, it was amazing.” The pupils met the players that were in the camp including, Ben Te’o, Tommy Seymour, Stuart Hogg and Taulupe Faletau as well as the two Gloucester players Greg Laidlaw and Ross Moriarty.
