Highnam Academy Welcomes Special Visitors
On Friday 7th December Highnam pupils welcomed some very special visitors into our Academy. Beryl, Naomi and Reg came to talk to the pupils about the Milk Top Challenge which has been running this term. Over 20,000 milk tops have been collected by the pupils of Highnam Academy and Beryl came in to thank Mrs House, the Academy Council, Miss Thomas and all the collectors.
There were also two other special visitors - Bruce, a guide dog and a puppy, Ermin, being trained to be a guide dog.
To start with Reg introduced Bruce and talked to the pupils about his guide dog and how he helps him. Next Beryl spoke to us about the role of a guide dog puppy trainer and what happens to the milk tops which we had collected. Finally Naomi explained how she washes all the milk tops, dries them and counts them ready for collection and their journey to Portsmouth.
"We had a wonderful assembly, it was great to see how our milk tops make a difference. Everyone
enjoyed finding out about the dogs and meeting Beryl, Reg and Naomi."
commented Erin, Academy Council Member.

At the end of the assembly Beryl thanked everyone for all their hardwork
and expressed what a credit the pupils were to Highnam Academy.
We loved having our special visitors in to our Academy and are going to continue to collect our milk top lids.
Please put them in the collection bin at the front of the school.
