Regional Rugby Event at Taunton School
Today Highnam Academy travelled down the M5 to Taunton to represent Gloucestershire in the South-West Tag Rugby Finals. Highnam pupils were up against the best of the region with teams competing from Cornwall, Devon, Wiltshire, Dorest and Gloucestershire. Highnam won one game in a tough group stage and lost out by one point to the eventual winners of the whole tournament from Newquay in Cornwall.
After a warm lunchtime Highnam were placed in the Vase Competition. First up were Cosack School and Highnam won 7-4. Next we played Widey Court and going into the final couple of minutes Highnam were losing 6-4, but a super end to the game saw the team grab a valuable draw 6-6. Finally Highnam played Cadbury Heath and won 8-4. This meant we finished 9th overall in the South-West and collected the Vase trophy for their efforts in the afternoon.
On the way back to school the team stopped off for an ice-cream to celebrate a great day. Well done team a great end to the tag rugby season. Thank you to the parents that drove down to Taunton and for your loyal support throughout the day.
