Highnam take part in Lantern Procession

On Sunday 20th November Highnam Academy joined with 5 other Gloucester schools to be part of the Gloucester Lantern Procession. The procession is part of the annual turning on of the Christmas light in the city.

Over the past two months pupils in Years 5 and 6 have been working with local artist Jane Calvert to create a large polar bear and thirty lemmings. The lanterns were made using willow, tape, cling film, PVC glue and white tissue paper. The theme this year was inspired by the theatre show being shown at the Guildhall on the build up to Christmas called 'Breaking The Ice.

Over 30 Highnam pupils walked through the busy streets of Gloucester alongside the Mayor and Sheriff. The parade started at Blackfrairs and finished at Gloucester cathedral with a short carol service. As the night closed in it made the procession even more magical as the pupils carried their LED lanterns through the bustling city centre.

Thank you to parent and teachers for supporting this event. A very memorable experience.
