District Tag Rugby Winners

Highnam qualified for the District Tag Rugby competition after a great display at the Newent tournament before the Easter holidays. On Monday the top 16 teams from the Forest of Dean battled it out to be the district champions. Highnam, Coalway, Forest View and Bream were in Pool 2. Highnam played Bream in the first match and scored a couple of early tries to end of 5-3 winners.

Next up was Coalway and again Highnam scored 5 tried bit this time Coalway only scored 2. Highnam knew a win would guarantee them a place at the County finals so were eager to do well. The game against Forest View was a lot closer but Highnam won 4-3. This meant they topped the group and went through to the semi-finals.

In the Semi-finals Highnam played Lydbrook School. After a nervous start Highnam were 3-2 down with seconds remaining but a turn over ball and a try in the corner meant a sudden death golden try. Lydbrook started with the ball but an interception from Toby saw Highnam scrape through 4-3.

In the final Highnam played Picklenash which was a repeat of the Newent festival final. Highnam dominated the game and ended up winning 5-2. This meant they were crowned district winners for the first time. Well done to the whole team and a big thank you our great team of supporters.
