Anglo Saxon Day enjoyed by Year 5/6

On Tuesday 30th September a real Viking called Eric Ericson came to visit Year 5 and 6, he talked about many different subjects, My favourite was about surnames... The boys always had their first name which is normal and then add son, hence Eric Ericson. For the girls it is their name e.g. Erin and an important parent name Victoria and then the Viking name for daughter... dottier. Therefore my name would be Erin Victoriadottier.

Next we looked at girls' clothing we had the opportunity to wear a long linen dress. Often Vikings would wear a long tunic, like an apron, it was held up by a pair of brooches and sometimes joined by a chain or string of beads.

In the afternoon Eric showed us a Saxon helmet. My favourite helmet was the Sutton Hoo helmet. We were not allowed to put them on because they were very fragile. Finally we got the opportunity to work on our battle cries! We had a great day of learning with a real life Viking called Eric.
