GPJ Success for Highnam

Congratulations to the 10 pupils who took part in the GPJ multi sports event at Heywood school in the Forest of Dean. This annual event involves 5 girls and 5 boys taking part in 5 events spread over two hours. The events are played in the following order: Volleyball, mini tennis, uni-hoc, cricket and athletics. Yesterday Highnam C of E Primary School played St. John's C of E Primary School from Coleford.

Following early successes in volleyball, tennis and uni-hoc for Highnam they lost the cricket match to some superb fielding by the opposition. In the final event 3 pupils took part in the standing long jump, 3 in the javelin and 4 in the relay. St John's performed well in the javelin and Highnam did well in the long jump, so this meant the winner of the relay would win this part of the tournament. After some strong running Highnam won by 0.5 seconds!

Overall Highnam won 12 points to 3 and go through to the semi-final. Well done to the team: Dan, Sophie, Lucy, Adam, Tom, Jack, Julia, Rebecca, Liddy and Finn.
