Wonderful Wheelchair Basketball
This week the pupils are taking part in Olympic themed events. Today we welcomed into the Academy Kevin Ogbourne who is the Head of the South-West Wheelchair Basketball Club in Bristol. He worked with each of the classes giving them the opportunity to experience wheelchair basketball for themselves.
In the final game between the Year 3 and 4 girls Mr Dean and Miss Coldrick even had a quick go. The final score was 1-1. Thanks to some expert defending from Izzy O!
After the session Kevin held a question and answer session. He shared personally how he has overcome adversity and spoke passionately about his work with the wheelchair basketball team.
"It was really fun and I loved having a go," said Zoe.
"The experience gave me a new set of skills but also gave me a fresh outlook. It was amazing to see Kevin so joyful and happy. He has overcome so much in his life." said Matthew
"Kevin sees it is a privilege to be in a wheelchair and it has enabled him to do so much." commented Laila.
It was lovely to meet him and we had a great day!
Our thanks to Kevin for providing our pupils with this amazing experience
