Magnificent Moog Visit

Competition winners tell of their exciting adventure

Today we both visited Moog because we had won a competition earlier in the year to programme a robot. Mrs Harris met us at school at 8:30am and we headed off on our adventure. There were 5 schools which had been selected to be part of this exciting project. To start with we had an engineering talk from one of directors of the company and we were able to watch a machine at work in the factory. The best bit about our day was we got to sit in a Formula 1 racing car. It was a tight squeeze because the seat in the car had been specially designed for the racing driver. We were amazed to hear that it roughly costs £10-£15 million to get a car on the grid…wow! Another interesting part of our morning was watch a computer check the parts to a Formula 1 car to check for defects. We also got to control a big valve which was part of the car. At the end of the morning we were treated to some tasty fruit kebabs and flapjacks. Thank you to Mrs Harris for taking us and Moog for allowing such an inspiring visit. “I wanted to be an engineer before the visit today because of my grandad,” commented Keagan, “this visit has made me want to be an engineer even more!” Written by Keagan and Jesse
