Swimming Gala at Newent
Today a team of 17 pupils took part in the Newent Primary Schools Swimming Gala. Highnam pupils were swimming against Picklenash, Ann Cam and Staunton and Corse. Joseph and Julia got the team off to a good start by winning their individual races. Joseph won the Year 5 Butterfly and Julia won the Year 6 Backstroke. Oscar continued our winning streak by coming first in Year 5 Breaststroke race. In later races a number of other pupils finished in 2nd place and may make it through to the Gala Finals to be held on the 30th March.
The Relays followed the individual races. The Year 5 boys' team consisting of Christopher, Oscar, Leon and Joseph won both the Medley and Freestyle relays. Well done to the Year 6 boys' team (Jack, Tom, Sam, Ryan and Dan) who managed a dead heat in the Medley relay and then won first place in the Freestyle relay.
Well done to the Year Six girls' team who came 2nd in both of their relays and will need to see whether they have made it through to the finals. The last event was the mat relay, Highnam beat Ann Cam in the semi-finals but were beaten by Picklenash Junior School in the final.
