Rocket Launch - Round 1

This afternoon, a selection of Key Stage Two pupils saw their rocket homeworks shoot into the sky. At the start of this term pupils in Year 5 and 6 began learning all about 'forces' in the aptly named topic 'May the force be with you'. Last week a wide range of superbly decorated and designed rockets were brought into school, but how would it work... here is a quick insight.

How a water rocket works:

1) Compressed air is added which creates a bubble that floats up through the water and then pressurizes the air volume in the top of the bottle.

2) The bottle is released from the pump.

3) The water is pushed out the nozzle by the compressed air.

4) The bottle moves away from the water because it follows Newton's Third Law.

Here are some of the designers with their rockets in action

Remember to watch the rocket video to see how far some of the rockets went!
