Pond dipping at Highnam Court
Yesterday afternoon Year 3 and 4 walked to the lakes at Highnam Court. Firstly we changed into our old clothes and put on wellington boots or trainers. It took us half an hour to walk down to the lakes. When we got there we were divided into groups. Each group was given some fishing nets, beakers, a tray, a magnifying glass and an identification sheet with a variety of pond creatures on. Before we started we had a talk about being safe around water and not to lean over the edges in case we fell in.
We found some amazing pond creatures:-
- Water boatman
- Water scorpions
- Damson fly nymphs
- Water louse
- Dragonflies
Dan found a very large blood worm in amongst the reeds. He enjoyed showing everyone his find!
We had a lovely afternoon pond dipping and the weather was fantastic. We wish we could have stayed there longer.
Thank you to Mr Head for letting us pond dip in his lakes.
